Skating videos - Night of the Living Skaters, Bucharest, 2008-2009 Prologue
As mentioned on the first page, until the early 20th century streets were open to everybody, but then some rich people acquired cars and started using them to kill other people they found on those streets (^).

Getting hit by a car is the third leading cause of death for kids 5- to 9-years-old,
the scientists determined that children could not reliably detect a car approaching at speeds higher than 20 miles per hour.

Clearly, these killing machines have no business being used anywhere there are people around, but the situation persists because the auto industry conducted an educational campaign (^), which involved the invention of two new words: pedestrian and jaywalking (^).

In the 1920s, the public hated cars. So the auto industry fought back — with language.
This is the story of how, in the 1920s, the auto industry chased people off the streets of America — by waging a brilliant psychological campaign.
They convinced the public that if you got run over by a car, it was your fault.

Blaming the victim is a common way of dealing with cognitive dissonance (^):

Blackwell and Sen shows that individuals committing violence against members of another group develop hostile attitudes towards their victims as a way of minimizing CD. Importantly, the hostile attitudes may persist even after the violence itself declines (Acharya, Blackwell, and Sen, 2015).

Anyway, some guys from Bucharest (^) who liked inline skating started to organize skating rides every Friday night, in 2008, with the intention of promoting this greatly superior method of transportation. It didn't last long, mainly due to environmental conditions and lack of support from the authorities, which were apparently busy with more important events (^). Here's the videos which I filmed:
