DOS / DOSBox DOS

The DOS semi operating system was initially a system bought by Bill Gate$/Micro$oft with $25000 in 1981, from a small company named Seattle Computer Products. The system was initially called QDOS, from "Quick and Dirty Operating System" and was largely copied from CP/M, produced by Gary Kildall. Don't buy anything from Micro$oft, they are trying to trick you. Actually they and many other such companies already took a lot of your money, even if you didn't buy anything from them.

Example (^) (translation):

It's about a $20 million bribe for a Microsoft licensing contract for schools in Romania.
[...]
The total value of public procurement is almost 250 million dollars.

Or as Dr. Richard Stallman said:

From the video, 10:08:
Another obstacle is that lots of schools teach nonfree software, which is basically like teaching the kids to smoke tobacco. It's implanting dependence, which is the opposite of what school should do.

Anyway, the best version of DOS is currently FreeDOS, available at https://freedos.org along with a large number of useful programs. It's often more convenient to use an emulator such as DOSBox though, which emulates FreeDOS as well as the hardware on which it runs, so it can be used to run most of the programs that come with FreeDOS.
